Zimbabwe
Zimbabwe is a magnificent destination for those who not only relish the great outdoors but loce to be part of it! Victoria Falls, the world’s largest, most dramatic waterfall, is alive with innumerable adrenaline-charged activities. Whether you prefer a bird’s eye view of the legendary ‘Smoke That Thunders’ from a helicopter or microlight or chose to join the wet-set careering down the river on a raft or river board, the mighty ‘Falls’ has it all and more: trails for hiking, birding, mountain biking and horse riding, jet boating, river rafting, canoeing and bungi jumping off the bridge, the second highest jump in the world – a freefall of 111 metres. If you prefer spectator sports, consider the elevate vantage point on an elephant safari or better still…a cruise on board a river safari boat, sipping a G&T while the sun bathes the river, the skyline burns orange and the African bush comes alive with the night sounds as elephant jostle for position at the waters edge. The village around ‘The Falls’ is charming with a wide range of superb accommodation options, quality craft work and a memorable fireside dining experience in a traditional African boma as Shangan and Ndebele dancers entertain you with cultural song and dance. Prolific wildlife and a wealth of protected nature areas are major attractions in Zimbabwe with the 14,000 square kilometer Hwange National Park topping the bill. With over 100 different animal species, a bird list of 400 and a reputation as one of the last remaining elephant sanctuaries on the African continent, this magnificent park is the pride of Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe is sandwiched between two of Southern Africa’s mighty rivers,
the Limpopo and the Zambezi. While the country has a wealth of premier
game parks, significant historical and cultural sites like the Great
Zimbabwe Ruins, visitors are understandably drawn to the majesty of the
Victoria Falls and its surrounds.
Zimbabwe is in southern/central Africa and is a landlocked country. Its
northern border with Zambia is defined by the Zambezi River, to the east
is Mozambique, to the west is Botswana and across the Limpopo River to
the south is the Republic of South Africa. It straddles an extensive
high inland plateau that drops northwards to the Zambezi valley where
the border with Zambia is and similarly drops southwards to the Limpopo
valley and the border with South Africa. The country has borders with
Botswana 813 km, Mozambique 1,231 km, South Africa 225 km, Zambia 797 km
and meets Namibia at its westernmost point.
